It’s Women Power in Udupi! MP, DC, SP, DM, ZP-CEO & Addl DC are ALL Women
It’s Women Power in Udupi! Member of Parliament (MP), Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP,) District Minister ( DM), Zilla Panchayat (ZP) CEO & Additional Deputy Commissioner (Addl DC) are ALL Women
“It is a District that is matriarchal in nature, and woman outnumber men in terms of voters. It’s also a district where women are financially sound, be it fishers’community, Bunts or Billavas. Women’s rise to top posts shows their capability. Their numbers are increasing in top executive posts, thanks to their success in competitive examinations. Yes, women are ahead, and this is the proof. I wish them success and may they usher in development in all spheres of Udupi District”- MP Shobha Karandlaje
Mangaluru: Before going further into details, firstly let me quote one of the best sayings by Swami Vivekananda-“Countries and Nations which do not respect women have never become great nor will ever be in future “ And while talking about Women empowerment- It is all about to strengthening the social, educational and economic powers of women. And also to create an environment where there is no gender bias and have equal rights in society and workplaces. Honour killings, dowry killings, female infanticide, domestic violence, sexual harassment, rape, illegal trafficking, exploitation (pimping), gender discrimination, sex ratio issues etc…
What is the importance of women empowerment? Women population is around 50% of the total population of India. Yet Indian society is a patriarchal society where men are consider to be the head of the family, and in many posts, men are at the helm. Even though Right to equality is guaranteed by the Constitution of India, despite that Gender Discrimination prevails in all most all areas throughout the country, be it social, cultural, economic, educational etc. Don’t you think that women have every right to be treated equally with men in every spheres of life and society. If women participate actively in economic activities and able take decisions, it would contribute towards overall economic development. The empowerment of women would result in overall development of society both at micro and macro level.
MP Shobha Karandlage
Jayamala- District Minister In-Charge
Hephsiba Rani Korlapati- DC
In any form WOMEN are not inferior to men at the same time MEN are not superior to women. Empowering women (equal rights for both men &women) will help to rebuild our society and that would take nation on a path of greater development. And for that matter, Udupi district has created an example where for the FIRST time, the District Administration, both Civil and Law Enforcement, is at the helm of energetic and active WOMEN. To start with, Shobha Karandlage as Member of Parliament, Jayamala- District Minister In-Charge, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati- the recently appointed Deputy Commissioner, Nisha James- Superintendent of Police, Sindhu B Rupesh- Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Vidya Kumari- Additional DC.
Udupi District just a few days ago added feathers to its cap, when IAS Officer Hephsiba Korlapati assumed the post of DC from her predecessor Priyanka Mary Thomas, who did a great job during her tenure, especially her action on sand mining mafia; while Nisha James took charge as Superintendent of Police from her predecessor Laxman Nimbargi, who locals say that he too did a good job by cracking down on drug mafia and other civic issues- and who also took action following complaints through the Phone-In programme. It is learnt that all these changes in the posts are being done by the state government as per the directions of Election Commission since elections are approaching.
Nisha James- Superintendent of Police
Sindhu B Rupesh-Zilla Panchayat CEO
Vidya Kumari – Additional DC.
Sources reveal that ZP-CEO Sindhu B Rupesh, a BE graduate from Mysuru who had secured the highest rank in the civil service exam, prior to taking charge of this post served as Deputy Secretary in the Finance and Budget department. And regarding Additional DC, Vidya Kumari took charge of this post from her predecessor ADC Anuradha G, yet another woman, in August 2018. Speaking to the media, on the appointment of All-Women Officers, MP Shobha Karandlage said, “It is a District that is matriarchal in nature, and woman outnumber men in terms of voters. It’s also a district where women are financially sound, be it fishers community, Bunts or Billavas. I wish law and order and good administration are good, and they together benefit people from all walks of life”
“Women’s rise to top posts shows their capability. Their numbers are increasing in top executive posts, thanks to their success in competitive examinations. Yes, women are ahead, and this is the proof. I wish them success and may they usher in development in all spheres of Udupi District” added Shobha Karandlaje. One thing we should understand and accept that without the support and cooperation of men, women empowerment is not possible- so MEN lend your support and encouragement to these WOMEN in Civil and Police posts, so that they will do the best for the development of Udupi District, with SINCERITY, DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, and without CORRUPTION?
Absolutely brilliant article by Alfie for m.com. What you have elaborated makes total sense. May the Women presence be felt everywhere they take the position and fulfill their respective obligations.
Wishing Alfie and m.com every success in journalism.
