J R Lobo and Congress Workers Submit Memorandum to CP for Action on Doctored Vijayotsava Video
Mangaluru: Former MLA J R Lobo along with the Congress party workers submitted a memorandum to the Police Commissioner to take stringent action against those who had doctored and circulated the Congress’ Vijayotsava video, at the commissioner’s office here on May 21.

Before submitting the memorandum J R Lobo spoke to Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar and said that the Congress party workers had held a Vijayotsava on May 19 at the District Congress office premises. “The media and the police were also present at the spot but some anti-social elements, to create disharmony in the society and defame the Congress party, doctored the video by adding pro-Pakistan slogans and circulating it,” said Lobo, urging the police commissioner to take stringent action against those who had indulged in such a heinous crime.
After receiving the memorandum, Police commissioner Vipul Kumar said, “I have informed the media that if they receive any messages that will cause disharmony among communities and divide people on the basis of caste and religion, to send it to the police instead of forwarding those messages. If anyone circulates or forwards such messages, they will be in trouble. We will take firm action against all those who are involved. Mangaluru is a place which requires a lot of good work to be done by the citizens. We should all join hands to curb such menace. We will look into this matter and find the culprits trying to create communal violence.”
Speaking to the mediapersons, J R Lobo said, “On May 19, when Yeddyurappa resigned the CM’s post failing to prove the floor test, the Congress and JD(S) got an opportunity to form the government. We, the Congress workers, got together near the DCC office to celebrate the victory and our party workers shouted slogans in favour of our leaders and our party. The media and the police were also present at the spot. But some anti-social elements doctored the video of the celebration to include pro-Pakistan slogans in it and circulated this doctored video using social media to defame the Congress party and its workers.”
He further said, “Congress party workers are patriotic and we have great respect towards our nation. The media has recorded the entire Vijayotsava and we are thankful to the media for the entire coverage. Because of the live coverage, we have been able to present the undoctored video. Some cowards have doctored the video which was recorded by our youth congress member Samarth Bhat. A person by the name Roopesh Shet had posted the doctored video on the social media saying that the Congress workers were shouting pro-Pakistan slogans which is far from the truth. We have the original recording which proves otherwise. Slogans were raised in favour of Congress leaders DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah among others. Today, we have submitted a memorandum to the Police commissioner to take stern action against those who are involved in such a heinous crime. For the past 70 years, the Congress party has worked for the development of the country. Congress party workers have sacrificed their lives for the country. Those who are spreading false rumours and such doctored videos should be arrested.”
Youth Congress member Samarth Bhat has already filed a complaint in the Kadri Police station in this regard.
Mayor Bhaskar K, Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde, Deputy Mayor Mohammed K, Praveen Chandra Alva, T K Sudeer, Stanley D’Souza, Appi, Mariamma Thomas, Asha D’Silva and others were also present.
I did watch the video on youtube and I could clearly hear one of the guys in crowd cheering Pakistan. It happens only once and the clip is approximately a few mins long mostly with Muslim youth standing around Lobo and a few other politicians. It appears to be an act of some overenthusiastic, idiotic guy in the crowd who realized his mistake immediately and kept quite. Nobody in right mind should blame Mr.Lobo for this incident. At the same time, Congress really needs to start getting serious about its ‘base’.
