In his Ramzan message, Akbar Ali said that the purpose of fasting is not only about avoiding food and water but to achieve total control over the body, mind and soul. “Such self-control is believed to lead a person to spiritual self-purification and total submission to the will of God,” he said.

It offers every Muslim an opportunity to purify their heart and soul and to remove the evil effects of the sins committed by them.
