Janata Curfew: Private Buses to Stay Off the Roads in Udupi District
Udupi: Extending support to the ‘Janata Curfew’ called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the city and service buses in Udupi district will not run on Sunday, March 22.
On Thursday, March 19 night, as India witnessed its fourth fatality to the coronavirus, the Prime Minister addressed the nation and among other steps, urged all Indians to stay indoors this Sunday (March 22) from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, calling it a ‘Janata Curfew’.
Extending support to this, the All Kerala Private Bus Operators Association decided to refrain from work on March 22.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com Kuilady Suresh Nayak president of the Bus owners association said, “The city and service buses have extended full cooperation for the Janata Curfew. Since many people are using public transport, the chances of the virus spreading are very high. So, we hope that one-day curfew will help to reduce the spread of the virus,” he said.
Suresh Nayak further said, “After the Corona affect the bus industry has totally collapsed and is facing problems in the state without passengers. We are going to request the state and central government to extend the time to repay the bank loan instalments. Hope the government will consider our request”.
Meanwhile, jewellery showrooms, cloth stores, grocery stores, Hotels & Restaurants have also extended support as per the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to check the spread of Covid-19.
