Jane D’Souza – Mangalorean Star

Jane D’souza was born to Mr.Denis Lobo and (late) Lilly Pinto of Milagres, Mangalore. She is the eldest among 9 children.

She did her schooling at St.Mary’s Girls High School (Marjil) Mangalore and holds B.A. in Psychology from St.Agnes College, Mangalore, a diploma in Secretarial Practice/Accounts; done courses in flower arrangement, bonsai and cookery.

Mrs. D’Souza has participated in almost every extra-curricular activity during school and college days and was an active member of the Milagres Church Choir, CYM etc.
Married in 1975 to Edwin JF DSouza, well-known Konkani littérateur and joined him in Kuwait, in 1976. Together they have one child, a daughter, Ruth Esther who is a MS in Communication from MIC, Manipal, presently managing her own Production House in Bangalore.

Mrs. D’Souza worked in Kuwait for 15 years as an Executive Secretary for an International British Organization.

After returning to India in late 1990, she joined several social service clubs/associations as follows:

• August 2002 to July 2003 was the President of the Rotary Anns’ Club of Mangalore and executed several Social Service Projects.

• Vice-President of the South Kanara Philately/Numismatic Association.

• Member of the Horticulture Association of South Kanara.
Mrs. D’Souza is an active member of:

• Ladies’ Club of Mangalore,

• Mahila Sabha,

• Executive Committee Member of Ex-Mariettes Association of St.Mary’s Girls’ High School and

• The Agnesian Association of St.Agnes College.

Mrs. D’Souza has won District and State level awards in stamp collection; continuously won prizes in gardening, bonsai, flower arrangement from Horticulture Department., and winner of State level award in philately.

Mrs. D’Souza, a cookery enthusiast, has won prizes in several cookery competitions, mainly, thrice in the competition held by Nestle India; and also in the competition held by Cashew Growers’ Board and the XMas Cookery Contest held by Daiji Dubai Website.

She has moderated cookery, flower arrangement, public speaking competitions as a judge and has given several talks on the All India Radio on gardening and cookery.

Mrs. D’souza has written home gardening column for Umallo. Presently writing cookery columns for Raknno and Kutam; editing Women’s Column “Rumbdi Phulam” for Maaibhaas.Com.

Mrs. D’Souza’s Randaap-Shindaap, a collection of 300 plus recipes for the modern housewife was published in Konkani on November 29, 2003.

Mrs. D’Souza loves reading, watching TV, and traveling. She has visited Greece, Italy, Switzerland, West Germany, Holland, France, England, Egypt, Bangkok and Singapore.
