Jaquar Group joins St Aloysius ITI in Launching ‘Skill Development Centre’
Mangaluru: St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute (SAITI)-Mangaluru, a unit of St Aloysius Institutions run by the Jesuit Priests ( Society of Jesus Congregation) having a legacy of hundred and thirty-one years of service, was established in 1981. SAITI is an institution with a distinctive academic profile, blending itself in commitment to rural ethos and modern spirit is preparing the rural youth for the modern challenges of today. It’s a giant step towards empowering rural youth by training them with job oriented trades. In Conformity with the regulation of the Directorate General of Employment and training (D.G.E.T) under the ministry of labour, St Aloysius ITI is training the students in the technical field ever since it started in 1981, is now permanently affiliated to NCVT new Delhi, Govt. of India of Karnataka with a grant in aid.
St Aloysius I.T.I. is rendering quality training to its students and makes them self-reliant in various fields at per with industrial requirements. Training is given in 9 different trades of one year or two years duration. After the successful completion of training in the relevant trade, the trainee is eligible for appearing the All India Trade Test (AITT) conducted by NCVT and is awarded the National Trade Certificate (NTC)from the Government of India. This Certificate is valid and Gives preference in getting service during the placement in the National and International Companies. In addition to these, since last two years, SAITI has launched two Skill Development Centres, partnering with two renowned companies, namely Hyundai Company; and Arvind Motors-Mangaluru- and the third Skill Development Centre was launched today in association with Jaquar Group (a multi-diversified bathroom solutions brand).
Prior to the formal programme of launching of “Skill Development Centre, the “Sani Tech Lab” by Jaquar Group was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mamata Gatti- Congress leader and Former President of DK Zilla Panchayat, along with guest of honours, Shekhar Poojary- HOD of C & F Shipping Company-Mangaluru; Fr Dionysius Vaz Sj- Rector of St Aloysius institutions; Ajay Mahajan- Global head Customer care-Jaquar and Co Pvt Ltd; Deivanayangam- Zonal Service Head-South, Jaquar Co; Satyaranjan Biswal- Branch service-in-charge-Karnataka, Jaquar Co; Hemachandra-Business Associate for Jaquar Co; Laxmikanath Poojary- Area Sales Manager-Jaquar Co; Fr Eric Mathias Sj- Director of SAITI; Vincent Mendonca- Principal- SAITI; and Romius D’Souza- Convener/Training Faculty at SAITI.
After the inauguration by cutting the ribbon, the lab was blessed by Fr Dionysius Vaz Sj- and all the dignitaries took a tour of the lab where all the newest of bathroom fittings had been installed. The formal function held at the SAITI roof-top premises commenced with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song, followed by a welcome dance performed by the students of SAITI. The welcome address and introduction of the dignitaries on the dais was done by Vincent Mendonca- Principal of SAITI, followed by honoring of all the dignitaries on the dais with a shawl, flower bouquet and a memento by the Rector.
In her inaugural address chief guest, Mamata Gatti said, “We should appreciate the kind gesture of Jaquar Company for coming forward and helping SAITI in launching their third Skill Development Centre, which will surely benefit all these students who are pursuing their career in various courses. Job placements for those who complete their courses here are also done by the institute, wherein last time nearly 140 students got job placement at Ashok Leyland. This institution also offers excellent training by highly skilled and experienced faculty; Placement opportunity in reputed industries; Free basic computer training and Autocad to the students; and Well equipped workshops- and the students should avail all the facilities provided here, and once they step out of this institution they should not forget the management and staff who made them responsible citizens of this nation”.
Ajay Mahajan- Global head Customer care-Jaquar and Co Pvt Ltd also speaking on the occasion said, “Jaquar Group supports the Government’s Skill India initiative, and we feel proud to be partners with the St Aloysius Skill Development Institute to train over 100 plumbers each year. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Skill India initiative, Jaquar foundation is supporting the mission with its CSR activities focused towards training, skill development, promoting education and various under rural development programmes.”
Ajay further said, “It gives us great pride to give back to the core of our business that is built on efficient and effective plumbing. Skill development is an important initiative driven by the Government and we believe that our current initiative of training plumbers will support their overall vision and provide employment opportunities. As a part of the programme, Jaquar Group will train 30 plumbers per batch and 100 plumbers over a period one year at the institute and 3 months of on the job training. The individuals will be imparted the skills of a trained plumber through on ground teaching and execution of mock instances. Once the training is completed, Jaquar Foundation will provide uniform and toolkit to the trainee’s basis certain defined criteria (who possess 90% attendance during the course & basis academic performance).”

In his message to the students, Fr Dionysius Vaz Sj said, “St Aloysius College which has started Skill development courses and this autonomous college is one of two institutions in the State to be recognised as a Kaushal Kendra- and we feel proud of it. Every time I attend the functions at this institution I see that the excitement and encouragement is growing to greater heights. Here at SAITI there are various facilities which the students should make use of. And with Fr Eric Mathias as the Director, this institute has grown tremendously and received high praises from all quarters. With the helping hand from Jaquar company, who are a multi-diversified bathroom solutions brand, let us hope that every home in India will have a decent toilet in the nearest future. Shekhar Poojary also spoke and complimented SAITI and the Jesuit Priests for their contribution and service in the field of education, where thousands of students who have passed out of this institutions are serving around the globe in various posts. The Students Council of SAITI was also inaugurated by planting a sapling in a pot, and also the council members taking the Oath. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the contest held at the institute. Two former students of SAITI, namely Nimaran and Shiyab donated few instruments to the MRAC lab, while the father on behalf of yet another former student Ranjeetha of SAITI, donated a Window AC to the institute. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Romius D’Souza, and the entire ceremony was professionally compered by Robin Vas, a faculty at SAITI. The formal function ended with a cultural programme comprising of mesmerizing Bollywood and Classical Dances by the students.
