Javadekar Exhorts Students to be Agents of Change from Cash to less Cash India
Manipal: Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar on Sunday exhorted the faculty and students of Manipal University to be part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign to transform India from a cash society to a less cash society. He explained the progress the country has made in a quick time and was hopeful that the “Digital Literacy Campaign” would see results in the not-too-distant future.
He explained the advantages of the use of less cash and called upon the students to embrace the concept and ensure that the change takes soon. “Details of the campaign are present on the MHRD website, which has received the best site platinum award,” he said and added: “From cash to plastic to digital, India is progressing very well and it is the youth of the country who can adopt to the changes fast”.
“The students have responded well the campaign and today 2.3 lakh students have registered for the campaign. He told the students to understand what digital transaction is all about. “What is money?” he asked. “Money is not cash. Money is the medium of exchange. Paper money, plastic money and now it is digital money. You exchange money with a tap of your finger”.
“The use of technology is so much that it is easy to go digital. Digital transactions at petrol pumps were just 30 percent, but in the only 35 days it has gone up to over 70 percent. That is what we are planning to do all over. Vegetable vendors, tea vendors, paanwallahs, everybody is doing it now. That is because there is a digital determination also”. “Yes, we can do it in a record time,” the Minister was emphatic.
“The real problem however is the mind-set. A change in the mind-set is very important for this transformation of India to a less cash society,” he added. You are witnessing a great change in India. It is not a routine change. “Before Independence, Mahatma Gandhi gave a call to the students to become the agents for change and a whole lot of them became soldiers of Independent India. Youth were responsible to achieve swaraj. Therefore, a lot will depend on you students to bring about the change from cash society to less cash society”. He asked the students to register on the MHRD website and volunteer for the change. He also told them that they would get a personal reply from him.
Later, he inaugurated the state of the art facilities at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, where he was received by the Dean Dr Nirmala N Rao. The facilities are Centre for Full Mouth Implant Rehabilitation with Dental Implants and the other is a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). Centre for full mouth implant rehabilitation is the first of its kind in the country being integrated with a premier dental institute.
