Mangaluru: JD(S) held a press meet at Hotel Woodlands here, on April 2.
Addressing the mediapersons, District JD(S) President, Mohammed Kunhi said that the State Government is so corrupt it is evident from the recent decision to form an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) which would virtually kill the Lokayukta. “This ACB is formed by Chief Minister Siddaaramiah on the advice of Kempaiah, the cop who was tainted by Lokayukta for corruption and misconduct. Siddaramaiah created this ACB just to protect the corrupt officials within the government,” he added.
Former Minister K Amarnath Shetty said, “This has caused confusion among people and they do not know whom to approach when they face corruption. It is best to dissolve ACB and instead make the Lokayukta stronger. When the Chief Minister is facing opposition from all ends, I think it is best to dissolve the ACB.”
Speaking about the question paper leak, Shetty said, “The papers have already been leaked twice and the Chief Minister is waiting for it to happen again. Suspension of officials is not the answer to the issue, there should be stricter punishment. The corrupt officials must be jailed, because if they are only suspended today, then they will be reinstated in a few months, only to leak the question papers again.”
Kunhi said, “The district administration has failed on all fronts. There is no co-ordination among the leaders, once they announce the Wenlock will be taken over by KMC and later Health Minister UT Khader opposes the move. The power tariffs have increased and we are faced with severe shortage of power and also there is lack of sand in the district. To procure sand, a person has to shell out Rs 9000 to Rs 10000 per load. The rich are enjoying the monopoly and the poor are suffering due to this.”
Shetty said, “With this attitude, it doesn’t look like the government will last long. The government should be disqualified and President’s rule should be declared in the State.”
Corporator Azeez Kudroli, Youth JD(S) leader Akshit Suvarna and others were also present.
