JD(S) Stages Protest against Delay in Pumpwell and Thokkottu Flyover work
Mangaluru: The district JD(S) Yuva Morcha staged a protest against the Central government for the delay in Pumpwell and Thokkottu flyover work, at the Pumpwell circle here on July 19.
The protesters gathered at the Pumpwell circle and shouted slogans against the Central government led by PM Narendra Modi and the MP of Dakshina Kannada Nalin Kumar Kateel for the delay in the completion of Pumpwell and Thokkottu flyovers.
Addressing the protesters District President of JS(S) Mohammed Kunhi said, “For the past 10 years Nalin Kumar Kateel is representing the district in the centre, but has not put any efforts to complete the flyover work in Pumpwell or Thokkottu. He is telling lies and blaming the contractors for the delay. Now, when the elections are nearing he has started to blame the Navyug company for not completing the flyover work. He is unfit to be an MP. Pumpwell circle is a curse from the BJP for the people of this region. MP should take measures to complete the work as soon as possible. In the coming days, we will intensify our protest to speed-up the work.”
Addressing the protesters District JD(S) Youth President Akshith Suvarna said, “Pumpwell circle is in the heart of the city and it connects to many other roads. In this area, there are many hospitals, schools and other institutions. But from the past 8 years the Pumpwell circle work is going on and it is now in a pathetic condition. Now since the elections are nearing the MP Nalin is giving statements that the Navyug contracting company is responsible. Not when the BJP is in power in the centre, why can’t the MP take interest to complete the flyover in Pumpwell circle.”
Akshith further said, “Nalin has been elected for the second time, why is he still not able to complete the work? Many accidents have taken place at the Pumpwell circle and many lives have been lost. If the flyover work will not be completed soon we will call for a hunger strike. A flyover should also be constructed at the Nanthur circle.”
The JD(S) District Spokesperson Sushil Noronha and others were also present.
