JD(S) to vote Meira Kumar for President – H D Kumaraswamy

Udupi: The Janata Dal (S) has decided to support UPA’s candidate and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in the Presidential elections scheduled on July 17 said H D Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister and JD(S) state president.

He was speaking to media persons on Sunday, June 25 after visiting Sri Krishna Temple. Kumaraswamy said that Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad contacted us through phone seeking support for Meira Kumar in the presidential elections and we have agreed to support her to defeat the communal forces in the country. The other 17 opposition parties have also assured their support for Meira Kumar.

Siddaramaiah is claiming that he is a farmer’s son, but I don’t want to learn anything from him. We are farmers by birth and have experienced the problems they face since childhood. Siddaramaiah has no real concern for farmers. People are fed up with the BJP and the Siddaramaiah government, they are now looking at the JD(S) to save the state from both the parties. Kumaraswamy alleged that in 4 years of governance the Congress government has achieved nothing. In the next Assembly elections, the public will teach them a good lesson, he said.

The state government should increase the amount of farm loan waiver as the waiver of Rs 50,000 will not benefit many farmers. The government has waived loans availed from cooperatives by the farmers. We had demanded the complete loan waiver. But the government has announced a waiver of Rs 50,000 of the loan amount. Farmers from our state too should get loan waivers on par with other states. Thousands of farmers have repaid their loans and the government should reimburse them the waived amount of Rs 50,000. There is no clarity on how the government will implement the loan waiver scheme, he added.

Earlier Kumaraswamy along with wife Anitha Kumaraswamy and others visited the Sri Krishna Temple and made a darshan of Lord Sri Krishna and also met Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math. The Swamiji honoured them during the visit.
