Journalist’s presence of mind foils Canara Bank ATM Theft at Valencia

Mangaluru: A Theft attempt was foiled at the Canara Bank Kiosk by journalists working at a nearby office at Valencia here on January 27.

On January 27, at around 12:10 midnight, the South police received a call saying that someone was sitting near the Canara Bank Kiosk wearing a Burqa in a suspicious manner. As soon as the caller noticed suspicious movements of the person sitting near the ATM, he immediately informed the police.

The Pandeshwar police along with the Kankanady Town Police while reaching the spot also informed ACP Valentine D’Souza. While ACP Valentine D’Souza reached the spot he spotted two persons fleeing when they saw the police and took them into custody.

Speaking to mangalorean.com, ACP CCRP Valentine D’Souza said, “At around 12:10am, I received a call from the North Police station about an attempt of theft at the Canara Bank Kiosk. I immediately rushed to the spot and started to search for clues. While we were searching inside the compound, a person removed the burqa he was wearing and started to run. While trying to secure the person we found another one and took both of them into custody. Further investigations will be done in this regard.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com the journalist who was working in the same building said, “After finishing my work at 12 midnight I along with my colleague while coming down the steps found someone wearing a Burqa sitting near the ATM. As I moved further I felt something was wrong with the person wearing the burqa and sitting near the ATM. I immediately called and informed the police. When the police reached the spot the one wearing the Burqa started to run.”

The canine squad and the fingerprint experts also reached the spot for further investigations. The police thanked the journalist for his presence of mind and help in foiling the theft attempt.
