Justice for Kavya, Bunts vs Billawas Why? – Deepak Poojary BS

Justice for Kavya Forum holds protest demanding Transparent probe

Mangaluru: The justice for Kavya Forum staged a protest in front of the DC office here on August 9.

Students from Canara College, SDM, Badriya, University and KPT gathered in front of the DC office shouting slogans demanding justice.

Some of the students marched in a procession from Ambedkar Circle Jyothi to the DC office. A minute silence was observed for the departed soul of Kavya.

State President of All College Students Association Dinakar Shetty in his keynote address said, “Students have the responsibility to fight for their rights. In the Nirbhaya case because of the protests by students within three months the accused were punished. In the Kavya suicide case students have shown their solidarity by getting to the streets. Some organizations say that the name of Alva’s institution should not be spoilt. They too call press meets and mention the name of the same institution. Why are some organizations supporting Alva’s? If their daughter was the victim would they support them?”

Dinaker further said, “Our demand is for the government to give Rs 25 lakh compensation for Kavya’s family and hold a transparent investigation of the case.”

Addressing the protesters member of Biruver Kudla Deepak Shettigar said, “We are demanding justice in Kavya’s death case. Parents of Kavya have a number of questions behind the death of their daughter for which they need answers, the case should be investigated and justice given to her parents. Those who are behind the incident should be severely punished. Biruver Kudla is always with Kavya’s family until they get justice.”

Member of Billawa Samaj Deepak Poojary said, “The Bunts community is holding press meets and giving statements to support Dr Mohan Alva. They have booked the Town Hall for a programme in support of Dr Mohan Alva. The Kavya death case is turning into Bunts vs Billawas why? Why are those who are supporting Alva’s do not have any concern towards Kavya’s family? Their ego hurts them from supporting Kavya. But we the Billawa Samaj will be with Kavya’s family until they get justice.”

President of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Anil Das said, “Today Mayor Kavitha Sanil is here, Students want support from all the politicians and community leaders to get justice. We thank Mayor Kavitha Sanil for supporting our cause in providing justice to Kavya. Political leader Amarnath Shetty is calling for a press meet to hold a programme in support of Dr Mohan Alva.”

Anil Das further said, “Old students and the staff who are aware of what is happening in Alva’s are commenting on the social media. Some old students who are outside the country are also commenting in favour of Kavya. Kavya was admitted to Alva’s under the sports Quota, she was a national level badminton player and was bold. Kavya’s parents are suspicious about her death. We demand a transparent investigation in Kavya’s death case and Kavya’s family should be compensated with Rs 25 Lakh. We will continue our agitation until Kavya’s family gets justice.”

Addressing the protesters Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “I would like to congratulate the students for getting down on the streets to demand justice to Kavya. When I visited Kavya’s house along with other corporators, Kavya’s mother expressed her suspicion behind her daughter’s death, which is natural for a mother who has lost her daughter. Kavya’s parents should not live in suspicion, instead, all her questions should be answered.”

Kavitha Sanil further said, “I am not here as a Mayor but I am here to demand a transparent investigation in Kavya’s death. She was an aspiring Badminton player and was telling her mother that she would take part in the International level in the coming days. Kavya being an athlete was bold but her death in suspicious circumstances should be solved. Organizations are demanding a compensation of Rs 25 lakh, I will discuss the matter with the district minister in-charge and do my best to provide compensation. I want the students to continue their agitation until Kavya gets justice. Normally most of the organizations protest for some days and forget the issue but in Kavya’s case it should continue until the questions before Kavya’s mother are answered.”

Kavya’s mother Baby also spoke on the occasion. Kavya’s father Lokesh, Raghuveer Suterpete, Robert Rosario, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Sitaram Berinja, Rathna Salian, Rashmi Karkera, Bharati Bolar, Naveen D Suvarna, K Ashraf, Vasanth Achary, Jeevan Neermarga, members from DSS, PUCL and other organizations were also present.
