‘Justice For Kavya’ Forum to Hold Jatha on August 9

Mangaluru: “National-level Badminton Player Kavya was found hanging in the hostel room on July 20 at the Alva’s Education Foundation. Various organizations have protested and demanded justice for Kavya. Because of the protests, Police Commissioner T R Suresh ordered a special probe in Kavya’s suspicious suicide case appointing ACP Rajendra as Investigation officer. Even after 12 days of the incident, the police have still not given any reports. We want justice for Kavya and a transparent investigation to be done. Kavya’s family should be compensated with Rs 25 Lakh”, said the convenor of Justice for Kavya Forum Dinakar Shetty in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on August 3.

Addressing the mediapersons Dinakar Shetty said, “We are not targeting any particular person but the incident took place in Alva’s Education Foundation and we demand justice. Those students who are pursuing the education in Alva’s, as well as their parents are living in fear. Kavya’s mother has alleged that it was murder. Various organizations have demanded a transparent investigation in this case. On August 9, at 10:30 am we have organized a Jatha from Jyothi Circle which will culminate in front of the DC Office. All the protesters will march in a procession from Jyothi circle and submit a memorandum to the DC for a transparent investigation in this case. We will not rest until we get justice.”

Dinakar further said, “An elected member, as well as two heads of educational institutions in their statement, have said that some people are trying to defame Dr Mohan Alva. But in reality, we are not targetting Dr Mohan Alva. The incident took place in Alva’s Education Foundation and we are demanding justice. Dr Mohan Alva himself has said that he is ready for any investigation. When Dr Mohan Alva ready to co-operate with us why are other institution heads and the elected member blaming the activists? Our aim is to give justice to Kavya by demanding a transparent investigation into the case. We also demand Rs 25 lakh compensation to Kavya’s family.”

When asked about why they did not file any case when they were suspicious about Kavya’s death, Robert Rosario said, “Kavya’s mother was working in the Hospital in the Mortuary section. And she knows that without the signature of the family members the body will not be shifted to the mortuary. But in Kavya’s case, they did not obtain any signature from her family members. After the cremation when asked with Kavya’s mother she said that the body was kept it in the mortuary without their signature. Even the Chairman of the Institution said that the body was kept in the Mortuary by the police which has created suspicion.”

Later when asked for clarifications of the voice record about the conversation with Kavya by her mother, Robert Rosario said, “I do not know, since when she has been recording the phone conversations. Baby’s phone does not have WhatsApp. When she was telling her neighbours that she spoke to Kavya on July 19 and was showing the date. The phone automatically started playing the conversation. All the calls are not recorded but this call was automatically recorded on the phone. Through Bluetooth, we saved the conversation for evidence”.

Raghu Suterpete, Vishnu Murthy, B F Pinto, Praveen Bangera, Anil Das, Kishore Babu and others were also present.
