Los Angeles, Feb 18 (IANS) Singers Justin Timberlake and will.i.am are being sued over their song “Damn girl”.

Timberlake and will.i.am are accused of stealing the track off the former’s 2006 solo album “FutureSex/LoveSounds”. And that song itself was taken from the late disco artist Perry Kibble’s track called “A new day is here at last”, according to the lawsuit.

The federal lawsuit has demanded an injunction against them and their other producing partners from continuing to profit illegally off the music, reports dailymail.co.uk.

PK Music Performance filed the federal lawsuit against Timberlake, will.i.am, Sony Music and various other record companies.

According to the lawsuit, “Damn girl” infringes on the copyright of a song written in 1969 by Kibble, an accomplished musician, songwriter and producer who was in the funk and disco band A Taste of Honey.

The band sold millions of records and won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1978. The band’s hit “Boogie oogie oogie” reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
