Udupi: K.T. Balakrishna took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Udupi district from the Additional Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan at the District Police Office here on Thursday August 11.
A Karnataka State Police Service officer, K T Balakrishna was promoted to IPS rank in 2006. He served as the Superintendent of Police of Gadag district earlier.
Before taking charge the policemen gave K T Balakrishan a guard of honour when he arrived at the District Police Office.
Balakrishana started his career as DySP in Chennapatna, he later worked as ASP in Mandya and Chamrajnagar. He has also worked as SP in the CID wing. He served as the SP of Uttar Kannada. He has two gold medals to his credit one of which he had received for his excellent performance in nabbing four of the accused involved in the murder of Nagappan, who was a close aide of the forest brigand Veerappan in 2003. The other medal was offered to him during the 50th Independence Day celebrations, he added.
Speaking to media persons after taking charge Balakrishana said that he would do his best to control immoral policing in the district. I am yet to study all the issues and problems of the district. Maintenance of law and order is our priority. I will try to control Naxal-related activities too.
The department would function well despite the staff crunch. He added that strengthening the department for effective functioning is also the other main concern. Udupi district would not be something new he has experienced in his long-standing career in different roles.
Speaking about the police negligence in Bhaskar Shetty’s murder case, the SP said that the allegation against the police is unfounded. There is no truth in the accusations. The recent Maoist resurgence in the district would be tackled and the issue would be taken up seriously. There would be no excuse for the shortage of staff, which is obvious everywhere and in every district. It depends on the long-term plans ensuring the increase in the staff capacity. However he assured to work at his best despite the staff shortage, he added.
It appears as if these officials keep getting transferred even before they fully unpack their personal belongings and settle. How can they be effective if they are not even allowed to get familiar with new assignment? Oh well, another illogical thing from third world country!
