Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti Rathayatra gets rousing welcome in Udupi
Udupi: The Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti Rathayatra got a rousing welcome in the city with the Paryaya Pejawar Math Swamiji Sri Vishvesha Theertha performing prayers to the Kanakadasa statue at the Kanaka gopura on Thursday, November 17.
The Rathayatra started in Haveri, passing through Ranebennur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Hassan and Mangaluru it reached Udupi. The Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti was received at Jodukatte on behalf of Sri Krishna Math.
From Jodukatte along with the silver idol of Sri Krishna the Jyoti was brought on a chariot to Car street with a grand procession. One of the interesting aspects of the procession was the participation of members of various folk and cultural troupes. At Car Street, the Samiti President and office bearers offered Puja to Kanaka idol in the presence of the Pejwar Math Shri Vishwesha Theertha, Shri Vishwa Prasanna and Yogeshwara Swamijis.
Speaking to Media persons Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji said that Kanakadasa and his literary works exemplify a casteless society. His true devotion to the Lord has won him laurels in the form of Lord’s blessings. Kanakadasa preached that humans are one community and promoted the Egalitarian society.
Recently we have laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the five-decade-old Sri Kanakadasa Mandir near the Sri Krishna Math. The renovation work of the Mandir is estimated to cost Rs 1.25 crore and is expected to be completed in November 2017. The Paryaya Pejawar Swamiji has provided Rs 25 lakh for the renovation of the Mandir.

The district minister In-charge Pramod Madhwaraj and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje have assured all kind of support from the State and Union government for the renovation of the five-decade-old Sri Kanakadasa Mandir.
