Kankanady police Arrest 8 accused in Pratap Poojary Murder case
Mangaluru: The Kankanady Town police have arrested 8 persons from a lodge in Kodekere in connection with the murder of Pratap who was hacked to death on February 18, at Maroli.
The arrested have been identified as Sagar Poojary (25) from Veeranagar, Mithun (25) from Maroli, Kaushik (26) from Veeranagar, Tilak Raj Shetty (28) from Kaprigudda AkashBhavan, Nikhil Shetty (19) from Kodikere, Manish Poojary (20) from SEZ Colony, Shivaraj (26) from Madoor Kotekar and Rajesh (21) from Kumpanamajalu House Farangipet.
According to the police, on February 15, there was a fight between Manikanta and Kaushik’s brother Nishith in which Manikanta had assaulted Nishith. On February 18, at around 11:49 pm, Harshith Shetty along with his friends Vithesh, Harshith and Manikanta were having time together with some drinks at Harshith’s place. At that time Sagar, Mithun, Nishith along with Kodikere Tilak, Mithun, Nikhil, Shivu, Sharan, Manish and Rajesh came to Harshith’s house to meet Manikanta regarding the incident of assault on Nishith and compromise with him.
While the talks were on, there was some misunderstanding and an exchange of words which led to a fight between them. In a fit of rage, Shivu and Tilak hacked Pratap with a machete with others assaulting him with wooden clubs and an iron rod. Pratap died on the spot, while others immediately fled from there. In this connection, a case was registered in the Kankanady Town police station under section 143, 147, 148, 120B, 324, 307,302, and 149 IPC.
Under the able guidance of Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, DCP L&O Shantharaju, DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil and ACP Shruti and under the leadership of the police inspector of Kankanady Town police station Ravi Naik, the operation was carried out by ASI Bhasker Rao, Rukmayya, Dayanand, Gilbert, Santhosh C J, Vinod, Madan, Raghuveer, Ravindranath Rai, Vinod Kumar, Nutan Kumar, Bhimappa and Malthesh.
The police arrested the accused and seized Machete, knives and motorcycle from their possession. All the accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
