Kannada Sahitya Parishat by-law amendments approved – Manu Baligar
Udupi: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat has approved the amendments brought to the existing by-laws of the Parishat after its general body meeting at Kota Shivaram Karanth Kalagarama in Kota on Thursday, March 15.
Addressing the media persons, State Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Manu Baligar said that the first amendment was related to the extension of the periodicity of the election. Henceforth, the election will be held once in five years as against the earlier three years.
The amendments were approved by 795 members of the State Kannada Sahitya Parishat out of 805 who were present on the occasion. Seven members opposed the amendments, he said.
The total number of members of the State Kannada Sahitya Parishat is 3,05,200. The membership (category-wise) has been raised to two for SC category representation as against the one earlier.
One representation has been recommended for ST community which was not there earlier. So far, there was only one woman member in the executive committee of State Kannada Sahitya Parishat and the amendments that made ensure representation of two women now.
It would also be incorporated in all taluk, district and also out of the state Kannada Sahitya Parishat executive bodies. There would be an inclusion of nearly 790-800 additional members to the body, he explained.
Earlier there was only one single polling booth in Bengaluru for the State Kannada Sahitya Parishat election. But the amendments would pave the way of setting up polling booths in all Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru. A decision was also taken to ensure a polling booth wherein the membership is more than 500, he added.
He said that the details on the amendments are being informed to all the members of the Parishat.
The number of nominated memberships has also been increased, he said.
Under the Registrations Act, there is no requirement of approval from the government. The amendments would come into force once it is approved as per the Registration Act by the department, Baligar said. He also said that some members had approached the High Court against the amendments. But the stay order was vacated on Thursday.
