Mangaluru: Despite the total lockdown in the city, the traditional fervour prevailed at the War memorial at Kadri as Centre for Integrated Learning in association with Dakshina Kannada District Ex-Servicemen Association, and Lions Club Mangalore jointly organised a symbolic programme to mark the Kargil Vijay Divas. Without much fanfare and keeping the COVID protocols of Masks and social distancing, wreaths were laid at the Memorial as a mark of respect and tribute to the soldiers of the armed forces. Only key office bearers of the organising institutions were present on the occasion.
The wreath-laying ceremony was led by chief guest Mrs Roopa, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada followed by President of the Ex-Servicemen Association, S M Airon, former president Col. N S Bhandary, Lions Club President K Krishnananda Pai, Leo Club President Aaron, Executive Director of CIL Sachitha Nandagopal among others.
Convenor of CIL, Srinivasan Nandagopal conducted the formalities.
To mark the Kargil Vijay Divas meaningfully, the organisations in association with V4 Digital media, live-streamed a two-hour online event “Salutations to Bravehearts” through the Youtube channel. The programme including messages from Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLC K Pratapsimha Nayak, inspirational speeches by veterans Col. N S Bhandar and Brig.
