Karkala: Areas of Hebri and surroundings witnessed a scramble by residents to pick a sudden outpouring of hailstones from the skies around 3 pm.
When the solid pieces began falling on their roofs, there was a minor alert around. But soon most of the people ran of the houses to celebrate the and hail the stones falling in plenty.
Buses stopped over and passengers got down to enjoy the ice pieces like candy as it was a rare experience. The drivers and conductors did not mind the delay for a while.
Rains lasted for an hour or so in Hebri town and Kinnigudde locality. The rain was accompanied by thunder and lightning. Seniors recalled that it has rained hailstones around Muniyalu around the same time last year.
Elsewhere in the taluk, rains were experienced in Kervarshe.

Mild showers hit Kamalashile, Rattadi, Siddapur, Hosangadi, Belve, Amasebail and other places.
Bantwal DK:
Bantwal, B C Road, Punjalakatte and surrroundings had moderate rain around noon on Saturday.
Puttur:
Narimogaru in Puttur taluk had a good round of showers on Saturday evening.
