Karkala Police arrest four in Death Threat to Businessman

Udupi: The Karkala Police on Friday, March 30, arrested four persons for allegedly threatening to kill a cashew businessman of Karkala.

The arrested have been identified as Naveen Achari (32) resident of Moodbidri, Shivakumar (24), Bharath Poojary (24) and Prajoth (24) residents of Karkala.

An eminent cashew factory businessman of Karkala complained to the police stating that he was receiving calls for the past two days demanding Rs 12 lakh. He had received calls to his phone on March 28 and 29 demanding Rs 12 lakh. The callers also threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the money.

The culprits asked him to deliver the amount at Parappadi in Nitte village on March 29. He immediately approached the Karkala rural police and lodged a complaint. The police formed a team and succeed in arresting four of the accused near Parappady, Nitte.

Following the directions from police, he went to the spot and when he was asked for the amount by the culprits, he said the amount is in the back seat of the car. When they could not find the amount, they attacked him and snatched his gold chain and the mobile phone. There were two culprits and they were followed by the police who were hiding behind the bushes and were nabbed.

The police were able to arrest two more after getting the information about them from the nabbed suspects.

The police have seized Rs 40000 worth gold chain, mobile phone, Rs 3 lakhs worth Innova car and Rs 20000 worth Motor Bike from the accused.

Under the order of Laxman Nimbaragi SP Udupi and the direction of Kumarchandra ASP, Rishikesh Sonavane ASP Karkala, the team led by Joy Antony CPI Karkala, Nasir Hussain PSI Karkala and others took part in the arrest operation.
