Karkala Police Arrest Two in Mumbai for Cheating Elderly Man of Lakhs

Udupi: The Karkala police have apprehended two individuals, identified as Ratnakar Suvarna Yane Bhoomika Ratnakar (50) and Karthik Shetty (28), in Mumbai on charges of defrauding a 75-year-old man out of nearly Rs 10 lakhs.

The arrests stem from an alleged scheme wherein Karthik was employed as a home nurse for the elderly victim, Shashidhar, through Ratnakar’s organization, Allitecare. According to police reports, on November 9, Ratnakar presented Shashidhar with a cash sum of ₹10,000 and subsequently coerced him into executing a Google Pay transaction to Karthik’s account.

In a series of transactions from November 10 to December 8, the accused reportedly managed to transfer a total of ₹9,80,000 from Shashidhar’s bank account to Ratnakar’s account using the Google Pay PIN that had been compromised during the initial interactions.

Upon Shashidhar discovering the fraudulent activities and the significant depletion of his funds, a formal complaint was lodged at the Karkala police station. Following the investigation, law enforcement officials tracked down the suspects in Mumbai, where they were taken into custody.

The Karkala police have urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly when engaging the services of caregivers and home nurses, to prevent similar unfortunate incidents from occurring. Further investigations are underway to ascertain any additional criminal activities associated with the accused.
