Karnataka Congress leaders call to respect Ayodhya verdict

Bengaluru:  Karnataka opposition leader and former Congress chief minister Siddaramiah called for peace, respect and harmony in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya verdict on Saturday.

“We should respect the judgement of Supreme Court on RamJanmaBhumi – BabriMasjid land issue. Let us have belief in the Constitution framed in the democratic setup. Let Peace & Harmony prevail,” tweeted Siddaramiah.

G. Parameshwara, five-time legislative assembly member and former Karnataka deputy chief minister tweeted, “This is not the time for either celebration or outrage, but for exercising restraint and exhibiting maturity as a nation.”

The official twitter handle of Karnataka Congress party said: “Let us accept Supreme Court verdict and respect the wisdom of the honourable judiciary who are delivering this Verdict.”

A 5-member constitutional bench, headed by Chief Justie Ranjan Gogoi delivered the judgement in New Delhi, directing the Centre to hand over the disputed land to the Hindus for building a Ram temple.

Earlier, security was tightened across Bengaluru and schools and colleges ordered to remain shut on Saturday in view of the verdict.

However, Saturday looked like any normal day with the usual traffic and commercial establishments conducting business along a 30 km stretch from Kodathi to Cubbon Park via Kormangla in the city.
