Karnataka elections: After 2 years, Sonia to address first election rally in Bijapur
Bijapur: Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address her first election rally for upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls on May 8 at Bijapur. This will UPA chairperson’s first public campaign after two years.
Sonia, 71, had skipped campaigning in all state elections after she was forced to call off a road show in Varanasi midway due to ill health on August 2, 2016. The event was to launch the party’s poll campaign in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections.
Manickam Tagore, Congress secretary in-charge of Karnataka is reportedly keeping an eye over the arrangements at Bijapur.
Speaking to reporters about Sonia’s rally, Tagore asserted that Sonia’s rally will motivate cadre and send a strong message to voters.
She did not campaign for her party in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
If BJP is smart, they will avoid criticising Sonia as it will prove counter productive. We all know the effect of ‘Amma’ factor.
