Karnataka & Goa Directorate NCC Crowned Champions in the All India Nau Sainik Camp ’18
- Karnataka & Goa Directorate NCC Crowned Champions in the All India Nau Sainik Camp-2018 (AINSC-2018) of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) being organised at Karwar from 14-22 Oct 18. St Aloysius College (Autonomous) students JUO Sanjay Glenal Quadros and JUO Thanvitha were part of the Karnataka Directorate team.
Mangaluru: Briefing the media persons during a press meet held at Karnataka NCC Headquarters Office in Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, Col Anil Nautyal-Group Commander NCC Headquarters, Mangaluru and also Lt Col Amit Ashri-Training Officer, NCC Group Headquarters, Mangaluru, gave the details of the Championship won by the Karnataka & Goa Directorate NCC Crowned Champions in the All India Nau Sainik Camp-2018 (AINSC-2018) of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) being organised at Karwar from 14-22 Oct 18.

According to them, Karnataka and Goa Directorate NCC have been crowned the Champions in the All India Nau Sainik Camp-2018 (AINSC-2018) of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) being organised at Karwar from 14-22 Oct 18. AINSC Camp is held to test the acumen of the Naval Cadets of NCC in various professional competitions like Ship Modelling, Boat Pulling, Semaphore, Firing etc. A total of 600 cadets from 17 NCC Directorates participated in the competition. Brigadier DM Purvimath, VSM**, Deputy Director General NCC, Karnataka & Goa who spoke on the occasion appreciated the cadets for their Zeal and Standard of training. He also reminded the cadets about the need to continue to live up to the motto of NCC “ Unity and Discipline”.
“Rear Admiral KJ Kumar, VSM, Flag Officer Karwar who was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony gave away various trophies to the Winners and Runner-up Directorates. Karnataka and Goa Directorate were followed by Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate in the second position and Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate in the third position. A total of 40 girl cadets and 40 boy cadets represented Karnataka and Goa Directorate at Delhi for All INDIA THAL SAINIK COMPETITION in various competitions namely, Firing, Obstacle training, Map reading, Health and hygiene, Judging distance, Field signal and Tent pitching “.
“The girls’ team was trained by NCC Headquarters Mangaluru under the Group Commander Col. Anil Nautiyal and the Group Training officer Lt. col. Amit Ashri at Tumkur. It was the intense training by NCOs, JCOs and the training officers of Mangalore Group that the girls’ team of NCC Directorate (Karnataka and Goa) created a historical achievement by securing the second position among the 17 directorates all over India. The DY Director Get NCC (Kar & Goa) Brigadier DM Purvimath, VSM ** complimented the Training staff and Cadets for their efforts. Five girl cadets and 4 boy cadets from Mangluru NCC Group had represented our directorate at Delhi and have come through with flying colors”.
“Among girl cadets, SUO Rakshitha M B from 18 Kar Bn, Mangalore, nominee for obstacle training, won gold medal in the same; Cpl Radhika Bhat K from 4 Kar Engr Coy, Manipal, nominee for Health and Hygiene, won gold medal in Public Speaking Competition; JUO Thanvitha from 18 Kar Bn, Mangaluru, participated in Field Signal Competition; Cdt Muthamma M U from 18 Kar Bn, Mangalore, nominated for Map Reading competition; Cdt Pallavi from 20 Kar Bn, Shimoga, nominated for Judging Distance competition”.
“Among boy cadets, JUO Glenal Sanjay Quadros from 18 Kar Bn, Mangalore, participated in Obstacle Training competition; JUO Pradeesh Kumar P from 21 Kar Bn, Udupi, participated in Field Signals Competition; Sgt Puneeth participated in Junior Division Firing competition; and Cpl Nireekshith S from 21 Kar Bn, Udupi, participated in Obstacle Training Competition”.
Col Anil Nautyal further said, “The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio-economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service among young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces”.
“NCC also tries to Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth; To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation; To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces’ To Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service among the Youth of the Country. Throughout the year we engage these cadets in various training so that they get more and more motivated. These youth cadets of DK, Udupi, Shivamogga and Coorg districts are our future leaders and nation builders. We will see that they get the best training in all aspects” added Col Anil N.
Lt Col Amit Ashri said, “National Cadet Corps (NCC) which works with the motto, “Unity & Discipline” has been doing great service to the youth of this nation in this regard. At present 77 cadets are getting training at Alva’s College, Moodabidri, who will participate in the Inter-Group Competition to be held in Bengaluru from November 1-10. Out of the 77 cadets, 42 will be selected for Drill and 35 for the Cultural Competition during the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. In the Drill group, cadets will be selected for March Past in Delhi Republic Day parade, and from the Cultural group, the cadets will showcase the dance forms of DK, Ballet, State Janapada song etc. “
“At present we are seeing a tremendous increase in the mindset of the cadets. Even the parents are encouraging their children to join NCC and involve in various NCC activities. Our NCC camps help the cadets build their physique, their character, their self-esteem, and will also make them the better leaders of this nation. Someday they may represent our nation to protect from intruders. We urge the cadets to inculcate some of the qualities like leadership, discipline, character, compassion, community service etc. I encourage the youth to pursue a career in the armed forces so that they could serve their motherland. And like our NCC pledge says, ‘We the cadets of the national cadet corps, do solemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of India. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizens of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings’- we feel proud of ourselves” added Lt Col Ashri.
Cpl Radhika Bhat K from 4 Kar Engr Coy, Manipal, nominee for Health and Hygiene, won gold medal in Public Speaking Competition on the topic “Why Organ Donation? ” who was also present during the press meet speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “Just recently I joined the NCC after joining the College, and this is my First win in the public speaking contest. It was indeed a great honor to win the coveted prize, being one among the 17 finalists. I will avail all the opportunities that come my way in NCC. I am glad that I made up my mind to join NCC, and so I encourage other youth of my age also to join NCC, where you’ll get involved in a plethora of activities like social service, community development, Sports, Cultural events etc. for all-round development”.
“NCC will also help to imbibe upon you intangible qualities like brotherhood, leadership, honesty, integrity, communication skills, decision-making capabilities, time management and a lot more which you can hardly develop in any other organisation. Being part of NCC one gets chance to attend various camps like RDC, CATC, NIC, TSC, BLC, ALC, TREK, YEP ETC. NCC prepares you for life – not just to take up a career in Armed forces, but let it be any field you go. One can definitely see great change in once attitude once you complete your NCC training.
