Karnataka Karmika Vedike ends Hunger Strike

Udupi: The hunger strike from February 8, launched by Karnataka Karmika Vedike demanding to frame guidelines allowing sand mining in the district ended on Friday, February 10 evening.

Udupi Tahsildar Mahesh Chandra along with Geologist Kodandarama offered lemon juice to president Ravi Shetty to end the fast.

Speaking on the occasion Ravi Shetty said that we have submitted our demands to the district administration. On behalf of the deputy commissioner, Udupi Tahsildar Mahesh Chandra along with Geologist Kodandarama visited our place and agreed to full fill our demands as early as possible. If they fail in their assurance we will lock the Geologist office and renew our strike again, he warned.

In the presence of hundreds of activists from various associations like Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Jaya Karnataka, Lorry and Tempo association who had extended their support for the hunger strike, the strike was called off in the evening.
