Karopadi Jalil murder case cracked, 7 arrested
Mangaluru: “The police have arrested seven persons in the Karopadi Gram Panchayat Vice President Jalil murder case”, said the IGP Harishekaran in a press meet held at the SP office here on April 29.
The arrested have been identified as Rajesh Nayak from Karopadi, Narasimha from Mani, Prajwal from Puttur, Pushparaj Gowda, Roshan, Punith and Sachin.
On April 20, Four masked miscreants who had come on motorbikes hacked Karopadi Gram Panchayat vice president to death at the Panchayat premises.
Addressing the mediapersons IGP Harishekaran said, “On April 20, at around 11:35 am, four masked miscreants barged into the Karopadi Gram Panchayat and brutally assaulted Jalil with swords. Severely injured Jalil was rushed to the hospital in Derlakatte where he breathed his last. In this connection, a case was filed in the Vittal police station by Jalil’s brother Anwar.”
IGP Harishekaran further said, “Based on the complaint we formed 5 teams under the able guidance of SP Bhushan. In this case, we have arrested 11 persons and seized 2 motorbikes, 2 machetes, and one Omni Car from their possession. The prime accused in Jalil murder case Rajesh Nayak and Narasimha Shetty were arrested in Udupi. During intorrogation, Rajesh Nayak revealed that it was a preplanned murder by underworld don Vickey Shetty.”
IGP further said, “In 2015, a case under crime number 166 / 2015 a was registered against Rajesh Nayak in the Vittal police station under section 143, 147, 448, 323, 354, 504, 506 and 149 IPC. In 2016 another case was filed in the same police station against Rajesh under section 143, 147, 148, 341, 323, 324, 506, 307 and 149 IPC and SC/ST (prevention of Atrocities) act. Rajesh Nayak suspected that Jalil was the person behind both the cases. In 2015, during the Gram Panchayat elections, Dinesh Shetty was the aspirant. Dinesh Shetty is related to underworld don Vickey Shetty. Dinesh failed to get the Vice president post in the GP elections whereas Jalil was elected as the Vice president of GP and Vickey Shetty was disappointed. Gram Panchayat meetings also witnessed clashes between Jalil and Dinesh.”
Rajesh Nayak and Narasimha are involved in various crimes and cases have been registered against them. Rajesh Nayak is a rowdy sheeter and 4 cases have been registered against him in the Vittal police station. Another accused Sathish Rai is also a rowdy sheeter and 2 cases have registered against him in the Vittal police station. Two cases are registered against Narasimha in the Vittal police station. We will produce all the accused before the court and take them into police custody for 15 days for further investigations”, said IGP Harishekaran.
SP Bhushan Borase, Additional SP Dr Vedamurthy and others were also present.
