Mangaluru: “Finally the police have succeeded in nabbing the killers of 27-year-old Karthik Raj who was killed on October 22 at Asaigoli, on April 28”, said police commissioner Chandra Sekhar in a press meet held his office here on April 29.
The arrested have been identified as Kavyashree (25) (Karthik’s sister), her friend Gautham (26) and his brother Gaurav (19).
Addressing the mediapersons Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said, “On October 22, early morning at around 5:30 am, Karthik was found in a pool of blood near Ganesh Mahal at Asaigoli while he was on his morning walk. Some miscreants had assaulted him, severely injured Karthik was rushed to the hospital by the police after some passerby informed them. On October 23 Karthik Raj breathed his last”.
The police were investigating the case to the killers of Karthik Raj while political parties protested and demanded the arrest of the killers of Karthik Raj. Finally, the police led by ACP Valentine D’Souza succeeded in solving the mystery behind Karthik Raj murder by arresting Kavya (Karthik’s sister), her friend Gautham and his brother Gaurav.
Police commissioner further said, “Karthik was working in Canara Springs. When the incident occurred we received a call about an accident. While investigating the case we realised that it was not an accident, but a case of homicide. It was a blind case and without any evidence, we could not arrest anyone. There were many angles to the case and investigations were on. It was a challenge for the police department. We formed a special investigation team led by ACP CCRB Valentine D’Souza. The team achieved great success. In this case, when we investigated Gautham who was working as a clerk in Kanachur Medical College and his brother Gaurav who is a student, they revealed that Karthik’s sister Kavya is also working in Kanachur Medical College. Kavyashree and her brother Karthik were not in good terms and there were family related issues. Kavyashree is married and her husband is working in the Gulf. Kavyashree had given a supari of Rs 5 lakh to kill her brother Karthik. Gautham who was constructing a house was in need of money. When Kavyashree offered him Rs 5 lakh, Gautham and Gaurav assaulted Karthik by diverting his mind. Due to the injuries, Karthik died on October 23, 2016.”
Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar also said, “We have arrested all the three in Tokkottu and further investigation is on. We have to be extremely careful while arresting anyone in a blind case. We have questioned people who were passing through that area but most of the people were hesitant to co-operate with the police. We have got some information which we will present to the court. At present, we cannot comment on Kavya.”
Chandra Sekhar further said, “We took our own time to investigate the case. We did not want to arrest any innocent person nor wanted to create such circumstances. We cannot arrest anyone following rumours. The weapons used for the crime have also been recovered from the accused. They had used a blunt weapon to carry out the crime. We had directed our team to take their own time to investigate the case and arrest the culprits. Sometimes there may be a delay in cracking the case. Finally truth will triumph and in most of the cases the accused will be arrested “.
Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar announced a reward for the investigation team for solving the Karthik Raj case very methodically with a top class investigation.
