‘Kasa Rakkasa’ Street play to create Awareness on Swacch Udupi
Udupi: What better way to pass on a social message than use the medium of performing art? Aiming to motivate citizens to become active agents of healthy and sustainable living, the Udupi City Municipal Council along with the Rangabhoomi has organized an awareness programme. ‘Kasa Rakkasa’ Street play which will draw the attention to issues of disposal of waste and wet and solid waste management.
Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge of Udupi inaugurated the Street play awareness campaign at the Service Bus-stand Udupi on June 22. Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje president CMC, Manjunath commissioner CMC, Raghavendra environment officer CMC, Tallur Shivaram Shetty president Rangabhoomi, Avinash Kamath Brand Ambassador Swacch Udupi, Raviraj secretary Rangabhoomi and others also present.
Sharing his thoughts on the initiative, Avinash Kamath, said, we are doing this as part of the Swacch Udupi campaign for proper waste management because we want to make Udupi is the model district for the nation in cleanliness. The 20-minute street play sends across a very impactful message that connects with people. Since awareness plays a major role in understanding the need for cleanliness we have collaborated with Rangabhoomi to stage these street plays. The performers will gather in crowded areas like bus stands and markets and create awareness on door-to-door garbage collection and waste management, he added.
The street play highlighted the problems related to unhygienic dumping of garbage. Using songs, masks, and witty one-liners, actors listed the health risks associated with open garbage.
