Kasaragod: Dr A Srinivas IPS, hailing from Shivamogga district in Karnataka, who has earned a name as an efficient officer, has been appointed the new SP of the district.
He replaces Thomson Jose IPS, who has been transferred to the police academy in Thrissur. He had earlier served as ASP in Taliparamba in Kannur district.
Son of Ashok, a small-time trader in Shigga in Sorab taluk of Shivamogga district, and Radha Bai, a government higher primary school-teacher, Dr Srinivas came up the hard way.
He had passed the UPSC exam with 149th rank. He was the first from the Katik community to pass the UPSC exam. He was even the first-ever from the community to get a medical degree.
While serving as medical officer in the general hospital in Sorab, he appeared for the UPSC examination. He had no coaching, but took inspiration from only mock interviews and short-term courses.
