Kasaragod: DySP T P Ranjit and team may have made a major breakthrough in drug-busting when they arrested two persons of a gang supplying ganja to cities in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka.
Abdulla (53) from Pachlampare and Irshad (23) from Patvadi were arrested from Uppala town in the taluk. The police had received intelligence reports about the drug being supplied from Kerala to Karnataka.
The police, instead of making their presence too obvious by coming in cars or jeeps, came in motorbikes and waited for the gang-members. They suspect the involvement of more members and hope to arrest them also.
A network operation centred at Uppala has been identified. Ganja is being brought from Andhra and distributed from Uppala. The arrested duo have confessed to having supplied it to Mangaluru, Udupi and Manipal.
The network is thought to be operating at multi-levels. Hence the police have not been able to track down the kingpin or masterminds of the operation.
