Kasaragod: Noorul Ulama M A Abdul Qadir Musliyar (91), a senior Islamic scholar, president of Samasta Kerala Sunni Jamiyat-ul-Ulama and All India Sunni Education Board and founder of Sa’adiya Arabia of Kasaragod, died in his residence at Kaikotukadavu near Trikkaripur on Tuesday, Feb 17.
Popularly called M A Ustad, he is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters.
In preparation for his final rites, the mayyat namaaz will be held on the Kaikotukadavu school ground at from 8 am on Wednesday. Exactly at noon, a mayyat namaaz will be held in the Sa’adiya campus, following which his mortal remains will be laid to rest.
Born as son of Kuriya Abdulla Haji and Nalkurappad Mariam in Udumbundala near Trikkaripur on July 1, 1924, he, after early education, took up religious studies. He also mastered Urdu language and literature. For many years, he taught religion at different institutions.
He has authored many books in Malayalam and Arabic. In recognition of his scholarly achievements and service, Iraqi scholar Syed Swabahuddin Al Rifai had bestowed the title of ‘Noorul Ulama’ on him.
