Body donation is the contribution of a body after the death of a person for research and education to hospitals or medical institutions. These donated bodies will be mostly used for medical education and research, such as surgical anatomy, gross anatomy or medical education. The donated bodies help in making advancements in science.
Mangaluru: On May 18, an 77-year-old man created history by donating his body after death. Kasmir Rebello (77), had signed a declaration to donate his body after his death, in a programme organized by the United Christian Association, on August 15, 2015, in Mangaluru.
Kasmir Rebello was the father of Antony, Sr Helen, Rita. and father-in-law of UCA joint secretary Joyce Rebello. Kasmir breathed his last on May 18. The funeral cortege will leave residence for Bambil Church, Benjanapadav on May 18, and a prayer service will be held at 3 pm. After the mass, the body will be handed over to KMC Hospital Manipal according to the will of Kasmir Rebello.
This is the first body donation from UCA after they signed the declaration to donate bodies on August 15, 2015.
