Kaup CPI Team busts Interstate Vehicle Theft Racket, Four Arrested
Udupi: The Kaup police led by CPI Mahesh Prasad and his team busted an interstate vehicle theft racket spread across two states, Karnataka and Tamilnadu and recovered Rs 23.75 lakhs worth vehicles and other properties.
The arrested have been identified as Mehboob Pasha (57), Syed Mazhar Pasha (23) resident of Shivamogga, Elias Babu (58) resident of Chikkamagaluru and Zia-ul-Haq (37) resident of Tamilnadu.
Speaking at a press meet held at the Kaup Circle Inspector’s office on Tuesday, July 30, Karkala ASP Krishnakanth IPS said, there were many vehicle theft cases registered in the district. The district Police head had formed a special team to trace the vehicles along with the thieves. The Team visited Hubballi, Dharwad, Tumkuru, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Tamilnadu and Kerala State and collected all the information of the missing vehicles.
The racket came to light on July 19 during a routine vehicle check at Katapadi Check Post where 4 persons were arrested. The arrested were later produced before the court and remanded to 10 days police custody. During interrogation, the accused confessed the theft.
The police have recovered 11 vehicles including 4 Mahindra Bolero Pick-ups, 5 Ashok Leyland Dosth vehicles, 1 Toyota Qualis, 1 Maruthi 800 car all worth Rs 23.75 lakhs.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Nisha James SP Udupi, Kumarchandra ASP Udupi Krishnakanth ASP Karkala and the team led by Mahesh Prasad CPI Kaup.
The team includes K Jaya PSI Kaup, probationary PSI’s Udaya Ravi, Sadashiva Gowroji, Mahadeva Bosle, other staff Praveen Kumar, Rajesh Ravikumar, Sudhakar Bijoor, Jagadeesh, Rudresh, Shashidhar, Raghu, Sandesh Sandeep Shetty, Raghavendra, Prakash, Sharanappa, Manjunath, Prashuram and Rajendra.
