Kavitha Sanil and Rajaneesh Elected Mayor and Deputy
Mangaluru: The 19th Mayoral election was held at the Mangala Sabhangana, MCC here, on March 9, 2017.
The Mayor seat was open to the women category and the Post of Deputy Mayor was reserved for men from the scheduled category. Kavitha Sanil was elected as the new Mayor with a margin of 18 votes as Kavitha Sanil secured 38 votes and Poornima from the opposition, secured 20 votes.
Being the only eligible candidate from the scheduled category, Rajanish was elected as Deputy Mayor of the Mangalore City Corporation.
In Mangaluru City Corporation there are 35 Congress, 20; BJP, 2; JD(S), CPM, SDPI and Independent corporators 1 each.
Regional Commissioner M V Jayanti from Mysuru Division, conducted the election process. Additional commissioner Bharati from Mysuru Division, MCC Commissioner Nazir, ADC Kumar and other officers monitored the elections.
Speaking to the mediapersons Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “I have worked with integrity during the last 3 three years under three different Mayors. I have carried out whatever responsibilities given to me with transparency. There was a strong fight for the Mayor post but with the blessings of Kateel Shri Durgaparameshwari, I have won and become the Mayor. I would like to thank the District Minister in-charge Ramanath Rai, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava and Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza for their support in getting the Mayor post. I am ever grateful to all of them.”
Kavita further said, “All the people from 60 wards of the MCC have trust in the corporators, I will not let them down. I will take all the 59 coporators into confidence and work for the development of the Mangaluru city corporation. My intention is to make the MCC digitized and before the completion of my tenure I will digitize the Mangaluru city corporation.”
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh thanked Suresh Ballal for his support. He also thanked the district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai, MLA Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza and all the corporators who supported him to become the deputy mayor. He said that he will work with integrity and transparency for the development of the MCC.
