Mangaluru: Abu Dhabi’s premier socio-cultural organisation “Konkani Cultural Organization” Trust (KCO)- Abu Dhabi in co-ordination with Samanvaya Trust, Mangaluru disbursed Rs 9 lakh worth of educational scholarships to 57 economically backward college students in a function held at the Centenary Memorial Hall, St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu here on August 12.
The programme began with an invocation. President of KCO Michael D’Silva welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the KCO members by lighting the traditional lamp.
Every year during the month of August, KCO supports deserving and needy students aspiring to continue their education after SSLC and PUC to pursue their careers. KCO has partnered with Samanvaya, an NGO which receives applications from these students through various sources and scrutinises them.
Students who were selected through Samanvaya were invited today for the programme and scholarship cheques were distributed to the 57 beneficiaries on the occasion.
In his address to the students, president of KCO Michael D’Silva said, “All these 57 poor students who are dedicated, committed and hardworking are very fortunate to receive the scholarship. This scholarship will not meet the entire expenses of the students but will help them in one or the other. Those who have received the scholarship should utilize it in a good way.”
Michael further said, “Along with education we need good health too. I would like to advise the students to maintain cleanliness. Mangaluru is cleaner compared to other cities and I would like to thank the Mangaluru City Corporation for the same. If we keep our city clean and neat we can create a healthy society.”
Former KCO member Robert Rego also spoke on the occasion. General Secretary of KCO Leena D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.
