The Blasius D’Souza road was inaugurated by former minister of Railways Mallikarjuna Kharge by unveiling the plaque at Bendurwell.

Addressing the gathering Mallikarjuna Kharge said that the drinking water problem should be solved by the central government. “In the past, when there were water problems and the Congress government was in power, Indira Gandhi solved the drinking water problem.”

He further said that when there was a need to provide water to Chennai, Indira Gandhi taken consent from Karnataka, Andhra and Maharastra and made an agreement and provided 15 TMC of water to Chennai. “Likewise if the prime minister calls upon the CM of Goa and has a discussion with him to provide water, then surely the drinking water will be solved. Though there are disputes for water, it is the duty of the prime minister to intervene and solve drinking water problems. The international law says that priority should be given to drinking water and the prime minister should look into it.”

He also said that a memorandum had been sent to the Prime Minister but the PM replied that it was the responsibility of Congress ministers to solve the problem. “It is the question of drinking water and the agitation will go on,” he added.

When asked about the DySP Ganapathi case, he replied, “Discussions are going on in the assembly. The CM and the HM have given their statements. I do not want to comment on this. Whatever the Chief minister decides, we will agree with him. The investigation is going on and the truth will come out soon.”

When asked about senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary demanding minister K J George to give his resignation, Kharge refused to comment on it.

MLA J R Lobo presided over the programme. District Minister in-charge Ramanath Rai, MP Rajya Sabha Oscar Fernandes, Blossom Fernandes, Food Minister U T Khader, Chief Whip Whip Ivan D’Souza, Mayor Harinath, Late Blasius D’Souza’s sons and relatives and others were also present.

What is the use of just renaming?

A few months back read about pot holes on road being filled by a lady guard or constable. I don’t know whether any road user remember her great work now.

As far as I remember Blasius D’Souza was a great lover of poor and hence pedestrians. If these politicians has built a nice broad footpath and then renamed the road it could have done justice to Blasius D’Souza.
