KKSA to Host Konkani Lokotsav 2017 on Feb 10 – 12

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Roy Castelino -President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA) said, ” Konkani people are always considered as a matter of national pride by virtue of their traditional value-based services and qualitative contributions in the field of – Business, Trade, Industry, Banking, Education and Health Care. Of course, the claim is valid for Konkani Contributions in every other possible fields of Human Development. As a National Language, Konkani finds its royal place in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Also, it is the State Language of Goa and more so, it is a popular regional language in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.”

He further said, “Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is planning to organize “Konkani Lokotsav”, a 3 day literary – Cultural event to spread the fragrance of universal brotherhood, amity, unity and secular values. In Karnataka, 41 communities of Hindus, Muslims and Christians are woven into a common linguistic fabric of Konkani. Come Feb.10,11,12, 2017 the surrounding of the Town Hall will come to life with a magnificent Fair of Food Counters, Games, Live Shows, Exhibition of Tradition and Customs as also Traditional Utensils and other Folk Items – on show and for sale, arranged in about 50-60 Exhibition Stalls”.

Devdas Pai- Registrar of the Academy, Lawrence D’Souza, Shekar Gowda, Victor Mathias “Vittori” Karkal, and Devdas Pai- all members of the Academy were also present at the press meet.

Konkani Lokotsav 2017 at a Glance :

– Mammoth congregation of people from 41 denominations of Konkani, Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

– Spectacular show of rich folk dances of Siddi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Hulus-wara and other Tribes and Communities.

3 Days Event in a nutshell :

• First Day – Friday, 10th February, 2017:

Day dedicated to Women and Children. This day, all the programmes are related to women and children. Women and children will showcase their varied literary and cultural talents. There will be seminars also. The exhibition will be on display throughout the day, and in the evening there will be folk and performing arts’ presentations. Also, during the day, short cultural performances will take stage.

• Second Day – Saturday, 11th February, 2017:

Day dedicated to Youth. The second day is focused on youth, especially those learning Konkani at the school and college level. There will be talent shows, a grand procession and cultural programmes.

• Third Day – Sunday, 12th February, 2017:

This day is for all Konkani speaking people – irrespective of region, age and gender. Seminars, conferences, cultural programmes are the highlights of the day. The day will culminate in the Closing Ceremony which will have the Academy Honorary Awards, Book Awards, Youth Awards, Felicitation to Achievers, Book Releases etc. It will indeed be a grand celebration with choral singing by male and female singers from Mangaluru and around.
