KMC Attavar Felicitates 3 Veteran Doctors on ‘Doctor’s Day 2019’
Mangaluru: On National Doctor’s Day, three veteran General Practitioners of the Dakshina Kannada district were felicitated in a formal function held at KMC Hospital, Attavar here, on July 1.
Doctor’s Day is celebrated in India on the first of July every year in order to mark the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidan Chandra Roy, an imminent Indian physician and freedom fighter.
The Doctor’s Day function at KMC Hospital (Attavar) began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In his address, Dr. PU Saxena (HOD, Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology) welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed the audience on the newly introduced Brachytherapy cancer radiation treatment.
Later, the Chief Guest of the event, Dr. KG Bhat (General Practitioner, Bhat Nursing Home, Uppinangady) was felicitated with a traditional shawl and a memento. The Guests of Honor, Dr. Jayagopal Tholpady (General Practitioner, G V Pai Memorial Hospital, Moodabidri) and Dr. M Haridas (Pediatrician, Payyannur) were also felicitated in a similar fashion.
Addressing the gathering Dr. Tholpady said that he was experiencing mixed feelings of pride, excitement, and embarrassment after being honored. Chief Guest Dr. KG Bhat said, “I have been associated with KMC Hospital for more than 50 years. All of my family members including my son, daughter, and son-in-law are KMC ‘products’. The KMC Public Relations Department always does an excellent job in reaching out to the patients. There are some cases where doctors cannot do anything. Although KMC doctors are available at any time to treat the patient, 99 percent of the doctors are not sufficiently examined. After being referred by the GP to the hospital, the patients are not referred back. I urge the KMC Hospital chiefs to correct this. I also encourage them to create a new course called MD-General Practice as there hasn’t been an MBBS doctor in Uppinangady since the past 25 years.”
Dr. John T Ramapuram (Medical Superintendent of KMC Hospital, Attavar), Dr. Alfred (Additional Dean, KMC Mangaluru), Dr. Nuthan Kamath (Associate Dean, KMC Mangaluru) and Dr. Siddiqui (Regional COO, KMC Mangaluru) addressed the audience as they appreciated the services of the felicitated General Practitioners and collectively denounced the recent assaults on doctors taking place across the country.
