KMC Hospital Attavar Observes World Alzheimer’s Week, Guest Lecture on “Raising Awareness and Challenging Stigma”
Mangaluru: The Department of Psychiatry, KMC Hospital, Attavar held the commemoration ceremony for the “World Alzheimers Week 2019” on September 27 in Sushruta Hall, 2nd Floor, KMC Hospital, Attavar.
Dr Keshava Pai, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry welcomed the gathering followed by the inaugural ceremony by the dignitaries. The Chief Guest for the event was the Dean of KMC Mangalore Dr M V Prabhu.
In his inaugural address, Dr M V Prabhu briefed on the latest research, recent development and the scope in the field. Dr Sheetal Raj, Associate Professor of Department of Medicine, KMC Hospital, Attavara delivered the keynote address, the importance of identification and management of Psychiatric symptoms in this population and about the functioning if the Geriatric clinic in KMC Attavara. Dr Deepak Madi, Associate Professor of Medicine, Deputy Medical Superintendent of KMC Hospital Attavar was presiding over the event and gave his presidential address and stressed on the preventive measures in Alzheimer’s dementia and stressed on the importance of sleep, exercise, new learning and yoga.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted for the poster presentation competition. Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and the Organizing Secretory Gautham Krishnan delivered the vote of thanks.
The guest lecture on the theme was delivered by Dr Anil Kakunje, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College which was followed by an interactive session with the caregivers and the delegates. The cultural event based on the theme was performed by the MSc Psychology students.
The Valedictory address was given by Dr Sharanya Shetty, Senior Resident in the Department of Psychiatry.
