KMC Hospital Attavar organises Cancer Survivors meet and Cancer Quiz competition

Mangaluru: As part of its Silver jubilee celebrations, and an attempt to spread awareness on the central message that CANCER IS CURABLE; Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology – KMC Hospital Attavar organised Cancer survivors meet and Intercollegiate Undergraduate Cancer Quiz competition on Saturday 22 April 2017. With cancer survivors and their families, its main aim being to spread the message of hope of survival in Mangaluru, the programme was inaugurated by Dr Krishna Prasad, Medical Oncologist of KMC Hospital Attavar, who was the First Medical Oncologist in Dakshina Kannada having an experience of Treating Cancer patients for more than 13 Years. Dr Krishna Prasad said that early detection of cancer increases its probability of cure and knowing that a person has cancer should not be the end of hope for the person; rather they should concentrate on enhancing the quality of life and do everything the person dreams of, so that he/she forgets the thought of cancer which will have a positive impact on the entire treatment process.

There was a session filled with fun activities for cancer survivors by leading RJ of Mangaluru Errol Pinto of 92.7 Big FM who involved them with fun games and on spot contests.

This was followed by a One of its kind Intercollegiate Undergraduate Cancer Quiz competition where more than 46 teams from 7 Medical College Hospitals Participated.

The Quiz was hosted by Dr Sourjya Banerjee and Dr Athiyamaan.The Team from A J Shetty Medical College won the First Prize which consisted of a certificate as well as cash prize of Rs 15,000. The Team from Kasturba Medical college Mangaluru won the Second Prize worth Rs 10,000 and the Team from Kasturba Medical college Manipal won the third prize worth Rs 5000.

Dr Anand Venugopal Medical Superintendent KMC Hospitals Mangaluru, Dr V Surendra Shetty Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal University Mangaluru campus, Dr Dilip Naik – Dean of Manipal college Of Dental Sciences Mangaluru, Dr P U Saxena Associate Professor of Radiation oncology were also present on the Dais.

Dr M Venkatraya Prabhu – Dean of Kasturba Medical College handed over the awards to the Winners.

I hope people pay attention to what Dr. Krishna Prasad had said. “Dr Krishna Prasad said that early detection of cancer increases its probability of cure and knowing that a person has cancer should not be the end of hope for the person; rather they should concentrate on enhancing the quality of life and do everything the person dreams of, so that he/she forgets the thought of cancer which will have a positive impact on the entire treatment process.” This is not just advice given by an oncologist but it has been proven to work for many cases.
