KMC Hospitals Mangaluru Perform High-Quality Robotic Assisted Oncology Surgery
New lease of life given to 52 year and 50-year-old patients suffering from uterine cancer
Mangaluru: KMC Hospitals Mangaluru performed a challenging robotic-assisted oncology surgery to give a fresh lease of life to two patients suffering from uterine cancer stage 1. Surgeries were performed by the team of surgical oncologists Prof Dr Somashekhar, S P HOD Surgical Oncology, Manipal Hospital Bangalore and Dr Harish E Surgical Oncologist KMC Hospital Mangalore
Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the uterus. Endometrial cancer begins in the layer of cells that form the lining (endometrium) of the uterus. A surgical procedure to remove the uterus is recommended for most women with endometrial cancer. Most women with endometrial cancer undergo hysterectomy, where the fallopian tubes and ovaries are also removed. (salpingo-oophorectomy).
The 52-year-old woman was suffering from with Carcinoma endometrium (Uterine cancer) stage 1A. Robotic hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic node dissection was performed. The surgery went on for 2.5 hours and the patient could consume normal food within 3 – 4 hours as compared to the traditional surgeries where the patient can have normal food only after 2 -3 days. The procedure went smooth and the recovery was faster with no ICU admissions and heavy medications. The patients were discharged the following day and can even resume work in 3 days. Similarly, a 50-year-old lady with stage 1b Carcinoma endometrium (Uterine cancer) was operated. In stage IB, cancer has spread halfway or more into the myometrium.
