US Doctors to Treat Children during ‘KMC Bal Shalya Kriya Mission’

KMC to Hold Bal Shalyakriya Mission week from January 24

Mangaluru: Kasturba Medical College Hospital Attavar, on occasion of completing 25 successful years of providing clinical services, has partnered an advanced Paediatric surgical program “Bal Shalya Kriya Mission-Mangaluru” in collaboration with Peedh Parai Foundation, Houston (U.S.A); and Bantwal Ananth Mallya Charitable Trust, whereby children up to 16 years of age with untreated complicated surgical conditions who require very high surgical expertise are screened by our Pediatric Surgeons through outreach camps from Karnataka and Northern Kerala Region” said Dr Anand Venugoapl-Medical Superintendent, KMC during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Urwa here on January 20.

He further stated that “Through this camp, all the identified children will be operated and treated free of cost during the ‘Mission Week’ from 24th January 2017 to 28th January 2017 at KMC hospital Attavar by team of Expert Paediatric surgeons from Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, U.S.A and KMC Hospital Attavar. The State and District Health authorities have also extended their helping hand in this project. This project is the second of its kind in India, and First of its kind camp in the state of Karnataka.

Speaking during the press meet, Dr B Shantaram Baliga- Professor of Pediatrics KMC Mangaluru stated “We see many parents who cannot afford the advanced treatment for their children due to their financial constraints and suffer the pain their kids go through as well. However, with this noble mission, all such families should come forward and avail the services. Patients suffering from Anorectal malformation, Hirschsprungs disease, Vesicoureteric reflux, Puj obstruction, Thoracic congenital anomalies any mass/ccam/cle and all types of unattended / correction paediatric surgery cases can be referred for the surgery by the experts from the USA.”

“On this auspicious occasion, the dignitaries will also inaugurate our Renovated State of the Art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U) at KMC Hospital Attavar” Dr Kamalakshi Bhat –Head Of Department, Pediatrics-KMC. Dr Sadashiva Rao- Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery and Dr Nutan Kamath Unit Chief & Professor of Pediatrics – KMC who were also present on the dais gave a brief description of the camp.

District-In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai will preside over the Inaugural function and Dr K G Jagadeesha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada District will be the chief guest for the Inaugural function of BSM Week on Tuesday, 24th January 2017; 10:00 am at ‘Sanjeevini HallS” 7th Floor KMC Hospital-Attavar, Mangaluru.
