KPRS Holds Statewide Jail Bharo Andolan Demanding Title Deeds
Mangaluru: The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha in association with CITU and CPI held a Statewide Jail Bharo Andolan against the government for not providing land rights (title deeds), Housing for the homeless and the land for the poor, in front of the DC office here on November 18.
Prior to the protest, a rally was held from the Mini Vidhana Soudha which culminated in front of the DC office.
Addressing the protesters, CITU leader K R Sriyan said, “The government is not in favour of the poor during the land acquisition. From past 25 years, many people have built their houses on the government land but till date they did not get the title deed. The corporate world has benefited through the government. People who have built their houses on government land and residing since the past 25 years they should be given the title deeds. If they will not be given the title deeds, they will be deprived of the government schemes”.
CITU district president Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “Land is our right, many people are facing problems because of the title deeds of the land. From the past 25 years, many people have built houses on the government land and are residing there, they should be given the title deeds. There are a number of people who are not able to have their own houses because of poverty. They should also be given houses with title deeds. Today the KPRS has held a state-wide protest to demand their rights”.
He further said, “More than 1000 protesters participated in the Jail Bharo Andolan out of which 150 leaders have been arrested by the Pandeshwar Police. We will be produced before the court and sent to jail. We will fight for the rights of the poor and the weaker section of the society”.
Yadav Shetty, Vasanth Achary, U B Lokayya, Vasudev, Jayanti B Shetty, Padmavati Shetty, corporator Dayanand and others have been arrested by the Pandeshwar police.
