KRV Stages protest against Mahadayi Water Dispute
Mangaluru: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), staged a protest at the Central railway station on January 25 demanding the prime minister to intervene in the Mahadayi Water Dispute.
The protesters marched towards the Railway tracks and protested sitting on the tracks for some time.
Addressing the protesters District president of KRV Anil Das said, “Pro-Kannada organizations have called for a state-wide protest over the Mahadayi river water sharing dispute. We the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike have extended our support and are holding the rail roko protest at the Central Railway station. We want prime minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the dispute between Goa and Karnataka to solve the Mahadayi river water dispute. We Kannadigas are fighting for our rights from the past 18 years. The BJP government in the Center and in Goa do not have concern towards the people of Karnataka. We are fighting against the non-implementation of the Kalasa – Banduri project. The Kalasa – Banduri project will divert the water from the Mahadayi river to the districts in North Karnataka such as Hubballi, Dharwad etc”.
Anil Das further said, “The government of Goa should fulfil the demands of Karnataka and in this regard, the prime minister should intervene. The Kalasa – Banduri project should be implemented soon”.
Members of KRV, Nazir Moideen, Madhusudhan Gowda, Arun D’Souza, Jerald D’Souza, Latha Salian, Firoz and others were also present.
The protesters sat on the railway tracks and protested for some time at the Central railway station.
