KSOG and MOGS host First Yuva KSOGA 2-Day Conference at Fr Muller Hospital
Mangaluru: The First Yuva KSOGA conference jointly hosted by Mangalore Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society (MOGS) and Karnataka State Obstetrics & Gynecology Association (KSOGA) was inaugurated at Fr Muller Medical College Hospital Decennial Hall on Saturday, 2 September at 6 pm. The conference theme is ‘Essential Obstetrics and Everyday Gynecology’. Acclaimed faculty members from national and international campuses will be sharing their experiences and mentoring the next generation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists during this 2-day forum. 420 participants had registered for the conference.
Even though the deliberations/seminars had started from 8 am onwards on 2 September, but the formal inaugural function was held at 6 pm the same day, where Cheif Guest- P Jayaram Bhat- Non-Executive Chairman, Karnataka Bank Ltd inaugurated the Conference, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Fr Richard Coelho-Director, Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (who presided over the function); Dr Vidya Bhat- President of KSOG; Dr Annayya Kulal- Conference Observer from KMC Hospital-Mangaluru; Dr Prema D’Cunha and Dr Vatsala Kamath- Organizing Chairperson and Secretary of the conference respectively. Prior to the inauguration, the dignitaries walked into the hall to the instrumental dance beat tune of World’s Number one song “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi, which created a revelry mood in the audience.
The welcome address was delivered by the conference organizing chairperson Dr Prema D’Cunha, followed by the briefing about the Conference and its theme by Dr Vidya Bhat, the President of KSOGA. Addressing the audience chief guest Jayaram Bhat said, ” Being a banker, I wouldn’t be able to talk much on the Health Care subject-but I do have great respect for doctors, who are considered as Gods in saving human lives. The qualities and activities that make a person an ideal doctor are generally the same qualities and activities that make a person ideal for any job. Honesty is important when you are a doctor, and it is also important for everyone to care about the people that they work with. Towards your patients, you must work for the betterment of their health. You must work with your patients as partners in that goal. It is your job to explain, to the best of your understanding, what health threats they face, and provide them the options (giving both the positive and negative consequences) for each option that they have. You must respect their decisions, whether or not you agree with them, and you must maintain confidentiality about most things that the patient tells you. “
“Society tends to hold physicians in high regard. Because of this, doctors have influence (perhaps unfounded) in many areas. Doctors should be very careful not to misuse the trust placed in them. There is a lot that a doctor can do, but it can take a great deal of energy to accomplish these things. An ideal doctor wants to become a doctor because they enjoy working with people and they find medicine very interesting. Being a doctor is like being a mechanic except that a mechanic works to fix a machine and a doctor works to fix a person. It is important to be humble about being a doctor. Doctors should have empathy and compassion towards their patients. While compassion is a virtue all people should practice, when doctors do not practice compassion, they can become very cruel. I have seen very good doctors, who are also good people, forget to be compassionate with their patients and end up being cruel. My relationship with doctors has been so much, that I still visit my Pediatrician for my sickness (in smiles!). Yes doctors are God on Earth, let’s respect them with pride. ” added Bhat.
Fr Richard Coelho delivering his presidential address said, ” Learning is a process that will never end, and continues forever. Learning is the act of acquiring new or modifying and reinforcing existing knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences which may lead to a potential change in synthesizing information, depth of the knowledge, attitude or behavior relative to the type and range of experience. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals, plants and some machines. Progress over time tends to follow a learning curve. Learning does not happen all at once, but it builds upon and is shaped by previous knowledge.”
“To that end, learning may be viewed as a process, rather than a collection of factual and procedural knowledge. Learning produces changes in the organism and the changes produced are relatively permanent. During this 2-day conference, you will all learn many new developments in the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. For the next 50 years, the life of the people are in your hands. We all should admire the villain, talents, beauty and love of Gynecologists and Obstetricians. Fr Muller Institution is proud to hold this conference. This City is renowned for its excellence and gracious hospitality, where you can savor a feast of enlightening and engrossing scholastic sessions delivered by accomplished pedagogues and engage yourselves on an eventful and youthful rendezvous during the 2-day conference, which culminates in a partaking of Mangaluru’s famed and unique cuisine, which you will savor right after this formal ceremony” added Fr Coelho.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Vatsala Kamath, and the programme was compered by Dr Savitha P Cutinho- Prof. and HOD of OBG Nursing Dept-Fr Muller Colege of Nursing, and Dr Sally M Abraham-Prof. Dept of OBG, Yenepoya Medical College. The formal function culminated with a scintillating dance performance by the nursing students of Fr Muller’ especially the mime act performed to the tune “Heal the World (A Better Place)” by Michael Jackson- and I end this report with the thought provoking lyrics from this song :
There’s a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could be much
Brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You’ll find there’s no need to cry
In this place you’ll feel
There’s no hurt or sorrow
There are ways to get there
If you care enough for the living
Make a little space
Make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make it a better place
For you and for me
If you want to know why
There’s love that cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares of joyful giving
If we try we shall see
In this bliss we cannot feel
Fear of dread
We stop existing and start living
The it feels that always
Love’s enough for us growing
So make a better world
Make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
And the dream we were conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this earth, crucify its soul
Though it’s plain to see
This world is heavenly
Be god’s glow
We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel you are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we cry happy tears
See the nations turn their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space
To make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
You and for me
