K’taka appoints nodal officers to oversee movement of people
Bengaluru: In preparation to allow the movement of people between Karnataka and other states, the state government has appointed nodal officers to oversee the influx and outpouring of people, an official said on Thursday.
Exercising his powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar has appointed two officials as state nodal officers and 11 more as state specific nodal officers.
“To facilitate smooth and orderly movement of people across state borders in the capacity as chairman, State Executive Committee, hereby appoint the following officers,” said Bhaskar in an order.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed inter-state movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons who are stranded at different place due to lockdown,” he said.
The chief secretary cited the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Wednesday order, which mandates states to designate nodal officers to manage the exodus of multitudes between several states across India.
“To ensure orderly receiving and sending of stranded people between Karnataka and other states and Union Territories as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) devised,” said Bhaskar.
Rajkumar Khatri and N. Manjunatha Prasad have been appointed as state nodal officer who will be overall incharge for the movement of people to and away from Karnataka respectively.
Likewise, he has appointed 11 more officers and shared their counterparts names from other states across the country to oversee the mass influx and exodus.
The state-specific Karnataka nodal officers include Kapil Mohan for the movement of people between the state and New Delhi and northern states, Manoj Kumar Meena, Rajasthan, Tushar Girinath, Uttar Pradesh, Anjum Parvez, Bihar, Manoj Jain, West Bengal and Northeastern states.
Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, Jharkhand, J. Ravishankar, Odisha, Gunjan Krishna, Maharashtra, N. V. Prasad, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, V. Ponnuraj, Tamil Nadu and M. T. Reju, Kerala.
“District administration, KSRTC, NWKRTC, NEKRTC and all other concerned departments shall provide necessary support in smooth orderly movement of people,” he said.
The chief secretary said all the nodal officers must adhere to the Ministry of Home Affairs and state government guidelines and SOPs.
