K’taka under 2nd Sunday lockdown in Unlock 2.0
Bengaluru: Karnataka is observing a total Sunday lockdown — second of the total five — to fight the coronavirus pandemic as part of Unlock 2.0, shutting everything except essential services, an official said on Sunday.
Apart from relaxations to essential services and activities, marriages already fixed can be solemnised during the Sunday lockdowns.
The southern state is also observing night curfew daily from 8 pm to 5 am, except for essential services.
Effectively, Bengaluru is observing its second 33-hour lockdown, starting with the night curfew, followed by the Sunday lockdown, beginning from at 8pm on Saturday.
“Curfew will prevail in Bengaluru city commissionerate from 8 pm on Saturday to 5 am on Monday. Requesting all Bengalureans to cooperate and stay home,” said Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao.
Rao said the curfew and lockdown are being observed in public interest and warned that anybody moving without a reason will be dealt with legally.
Earlier, Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar had, as part of his Unlock 2.0 guidelines, announced that the state shall observe complete lockdowns on five Sunday — starting July 5 and ending on August 2.
Meanwhile, in view of a spike in number of corona cases, an official from the Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement on Saturday evening: “A complete lockdown will be observed from 8 pm on July 14 to 5 am on July 22 in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts to contain the coronavirus spread.”
