Kudla witnesses another cracking BREVET (BRM) of the season 2018-19 organised by AUDAX India and club WE R Cycling
Mangaluru: Team WE R Cycling organised the last 200km BRM of 2018-19 of the AUDAX Cycling season on Sunday, 20 October 2019. Titled Square Route, the ride took the riders around beautiful terrains of the coastal districts along the river Nethravathi, foothills of Western Ghat, the lifeline Swarna River and the majestic Arabian sea touching 4 corners of DK & Udupi District.
The route was exemplary interns of beauty, challenges it offered and the terrain it took the riders around. 9 riders signed up for the event, which was flagged off from TAJ Cycles at the scheduled time of 6.15 am.
The ride until the flat (for our standards) BC road went very well. All the riders were riding together and took the pit stop for breakfast. After some sumptuous delicacies like steaming idlis, medu vada, kadle-bajil, padangi-bajil, akki rotti and the famous pundi-gatti topped with hot hot chai, they left to explore our destiny towards Moodabidri. And the first shock was a 7% gradient climb for over a few kms. The youngster in the group, Hari, Gururaj, Joseph and Raj were climbing so easily like an arrow shot from a bow. The veteran & saviour of many BRMs, Shyam sir was riding as casually as his usual morning rides. Mohieeb, another youngster who joined an event a few minutes late was riding on his own from start until finish.
With time ticking, the riders completed the ride one at a time. Hari had reached by 3.30, Gururaj & Joseph by 5, Mohieeb around 5.30, me & Shyam sir by 6:30 and finally followed by Raj.
As the saying goes, AUDAX BRMs are to be endured and enjoyed and every BRM is unique in its own way, however easy or tough the route is. It’s a mind game over physical ones and never surrender without fighting until the last!! Finishing early is not the true spirit but finishing within time is the spirit of every BRM.
AUDAX BRMs (BREVETS) are the oldest cycling events in the world under the banner of AUDAX CLIB PARISIAN. These events in India are overseen by AUDAX INDIA and WE R CYCLING is the only approved club to organise these events in Udupi, Mangalore, Madikeri & Chikamagalur region.
