‘Kudremukh Calling’ Cycle Ride Raising Awareness on Plastic Ban by WE R Cycling

Mangaluru: With India taking lead in Beat Plastic Pollution, the theme of 2018 World Environment Day, the cycling clubs and associations of Mangaluru, Udupi, Mysore and Chikamagaluru, led by WE R Cycling Mangalore joined hands together to pledge their commitment to end single-use plastic, protect the environment and save the green coverage of our pride, the Western Ghats.

With support from Karnataka Forest Department (Karkala, Kudremukh and Mangalore regions), 87 members of these cycling associations came forward for an environment friendly bicycle ride in harmony with nature on Sunday, 29th July 2018 on Kudremukh Road from Mala Ghat to Bhagavathi nature park and pledged their support for the ride theme ‘Eliminate Plastic to preserve our Forests’, ‘Western Ghats – our treasure, our pride – Save & Protect’.

To make the ride interesting, a cycling competition was also held enroute for a stretch of 18km with average gradient of 5.5% & 1000m elevation gain. Lokesh Narasimhachar of Mysore finished the ride with an impressive timing of 1:01 hour followed by Srinidhi Urala from Udupi with a timing of 1:14 and Harivijay Kudva from Mangaluru with a timing of 1:17.

During the lunch hours, medals received from Audax Club Parisian were distributed to the riders for having completed Brevet de Randonneure (BRM) in the previous season. While concluding, the riders and organizers wished for many more such events and hoped that “let our pledge turn into actions and our theme spiral into mass reactions”.
